The Town of Rockwell lies in the east-central portion of Rowan County, ten miles southeast of Salisbury, the county seat.  Rowan County, situated near the center of the North Carolina Piedmont Industrial Crescent, is about midway between the Charlotte and Piedmont Triad (Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem) metropolitan areas.  Each of these metropolitan areas is less than an hour's drive from Rockwell.

Major highways play an important role in the economic well-being of the town.  Interstate 85 is about a ten mile drive and is easily accessed by traveling either highways US 52 or NC 152 which intersect in the center of Rockwell.  Interstates 40 and 77 are only 30 minutes away
